10n Philosophy
We believe in the following principles:
- It is easy to design poorly. In fact it's the easiest thing in the world - that's why there are
so many terrible websites cluttering the internet. To design well is to know your audience, design
cleanly, and specifically for them.
- Fringe cases are for programmers to worry about, not designers. Do you have visually impared people
from Brazil trying to access your site, and are put off by the fact that you do not offer your 'ALT'
tags in Spanish? It's easy to get caught up in the 'what if' scenarios and waste a lot of time and money on the
fringe cases. Stick with the 80-20 rule, and you will realize the greatest return on your investment.
- Keywords just serve to confuse the real issues. Talk about 'paradigms', 'portal concepts',
'business models', and 'solutions' to your own detriment. Keep things simple and the results will
speak for themselves.
- Don't add 'e' to the front of anything. It really eIrritates ePeople (note the subtle
humour to convey the point). Think about it as the marketing equivalent
of bad design - the easiest thing to do is to add and 'e' to something, but it's bad form, and makes
you look very outdated very quickly.
- Good code takes time. Again, very easy to punch out a site using a GUI editor or create something
made entirely out of images linked together. Well written code is efficient, easy to read, easy to
work with in the future, and uses optimized graphics where appropriate. It also takes time to write.
Build things properly the first time and you won't have to re-build them later.
- The internet is just like any other business venture, even though TV commercials would have you
assume differently. 'If you build it, they will come' strategy does not work anymore. There are well
over 1 million sites out there. Simply being there will not make you a billionaire. Plan some traditional
marketing along with the site to make sure people know it's there.
There is more method behind our madness, but this bit should keep you content for now. Give us a call to discuss
some more wisdom if you wish!
